Mother's Day Merriment

April showers bring May flowers to gift to your mother[s] this Mother’s Day! This holiday is always sure to usher in all of the love, appreciation, and respect we have for our dedicated moms and/or maternal figures, while reminding us that it’s not about the money you spend, but the time spent with one another.

Founded by Anna Jarvis of West Virginia in 1907, Mother’s Day is now celebrated annually (on varying dates) across the globe! In the United States, the holiday typically falls on the second Sunday in May, so the exact dates are not consecutive to their following years on the calendar year.
For the first recorded Mother’s Day, Jarvis gave out white carnations to mothers in attendance at the church service she attended in honor of her own mother, encouraging a more intentional appreciation for the maternal figures of our lives for this one special day, and after seven years, the holiday was recognized nationally by President Woodrow Wilson in 1914. Today, a classic celebration typically includes flowers, homemade treats or gifts, and a nice meal (typically breakfast or brunch) with the family.

Since the 2010s, more and more locations have noted that specifically, their Mother’s Day Brunch has become a staple menu or event to prepare for in the dining year. What used to be a standard breakfast with a slightly specialized menu, and more mimosas than one thought possible, the cultural norm has shifted so far into the brunch bias that some restaurants are now pushing their 7 AM opening times to 9 or even 10 AM to better cultivate that atmosphere that brunch exudes.
This lean toward a later start on the special day might derive from following a church service, the aftermath of a celebration from the night before, or simply taking the time to acknowledge and appreciate the love in your life, reflecting on other Mothers’ Day memories. Whatever the cause may be, celebrations still begin early enough to leave the remainder of the day available for any activities Mom requests.
Mother’s Day in the events and dining industries has ultimately proven to be very successful. People begin to book their Mother’s Day reservations and plans about a month and a half to two weeks in advance of the holiday to ensure their ideal schedule is set and their table is waiting for them.

This May 11, 2025, for example, Gather is hosting their annual Mothers’ Day Brunch, where the theme last year was “A berry special Mothers’ Day”, with amazing fresh berries and sweet activities decorating the venue, this year’s theme is “Breakfast in the Garden”. Fresh berries and food will, of course, make a return along the buffet, as well as the complimentary “momosa”, but this time the space will be transformed into a gallant garden with fresh florals and greenery from Gather’s trusted friends at Petal Pusher.

For the moms with little ones, there are sure to be fun elements and inclusions to keep them entertained and happy while you enjoy a break from the daily demands. No need to even fumble or fret over taking photos of you and/or of your loved ones, we have a professional assigned for the task, and we will then send the photos right to your email once finished. Fill up on a lovely brunch buffet, snap some sweet shots, and enjoy the rest of the Sunday with your family!

Families and individuals like to celebrate the day in more ways than one, often starting with brunch and shifting their afternoon to something outdoors (weather permitting), such as a hike, beach day, or gardening day. Aside from the holiday being great business for restaurants and event venues, florists and greenhouses of varying kinds also see business nearly equivalent to Valentine’s Day, as we shower the moms and maternal figures in our lives with loving gestures and gifts.
The longstanding and loving tradition of crafting a specially made gift for Mom carries over from our childhood to our adult years as we gear our gifting tendencies to handmade cards, treats, meals, or simply taking over the household chores (or, as an adult, covering one of the month’s utility bills) to represent our thanks for their same acts of service we grew up with under their care.

Do you have your Mother’s Day plans in order this 2025? Looking for ideas to be prepared for next year’s loving occasion or even inspiration for Father’s Day? As long as you are giving your time and presence to your loved one, showing your admiration and gratitude toward their efforts, you are celebrating the holidays the right way!
